How to get online credit online through GED programs
A growing number of Americans are using the online certificates program to get their GEDs, or equivalency certificates, for free, according to a report released Tuesday.
The report, titled Online GED Programs Are Becoming Popular, by the Association for Continuing Education (ACCE), said online certificate programs have become increasingly popular, with about 40 percent of the nation’s 2.4 million online learners in 2015 enrolling in them.
But the report also found that many of the online programs were offering little more than a one-time enrollment.
The main reason for this, the report found, is that many online certificates programs were not as well advertised as they could be.
The ACCE study said that many people who enrolled in certificates through a certificate program had only one GED or equivalence.
“Certificate programs are often advertised as offering a free online certificate, but that’s not always the case,” said Jessica Pascual, the chief research officer for ACCE.
“Many online certificates are only offering one certificate.”
She added that certificates offered by certificate programs are offered online by websites that do not maintain their own website or are run by third-party contractors.
“Many online certificate providers are using other services to advertise their programs to consumers, but these providers are not actually running their own sites and are not in control of the content they offer to consumers,” Pascual said.
Pascual said many online certificate organizations are not offering much of a benefit to their consumers, especially in terms of the amount of money people pay for their certificates.
“People typically pay anywhere from $300 to $800 for their Geds or equivalencies, and the online certificate websites do not have a lot of value for the average consumer,” Pescual added.
“Some people will pay between $1,000 and $5,000 for their online certificates, which is far less than the costs of the programs offered by the online program.”
The report found that nearly one-third of the certificates available online did not provide any information about the program’s fee structure or how much the certificate costs.
The study also found, however, that many certificate programs were advertised as requiring students to take at least six credits at least once in order to get the certificate.
“It’s important to note that most online certificate schools do not require students to complete any courses in order for them to enroll in the certificate program,” Piscual said.
“A great deal of online certificate enrollment comes from people who have been using the certificates program for a year or more and are then able to go back to the same online certificate program and enroll in it again.”
The ACES report also noted that some online certificate companies that offer certificates in a similar manner to the one offered by a traditional college, such as the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, offer online programs for students who have graduated from college and are now working in certain industries.
But those programs also require that students take at most six credits, and those students are typically not going to be using those certificates as their primary credential for a long time, the ACES said.
For example, while many of those certificates may be available for free online, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) does not offer the online GED program.
The AICPA is a nonprofit organization that has been in business since 1985.
“The AicPA is not a certified professional organization, but we do offer certificates to some degree to individuals who have completed a training course, and many of them are able to use our certificates to get jobs and earn money as a result of that training,” the AICPS statement said.
“But AICPAs certificate programs offer very little value to the individual who holds them.”
For example the AicPAs GED certificate does not guarantee a job, and a certificate issued by the AIGA does not grant a certificate, according the AICSPAS statement.
